For New Believers // Lesson 1
The Gospel
Introduction:
This lesson walks through the basic truths of the Gospel and gives people an opportunity to respond to Jesus. You can also use Billy Graham’s Steps to Peace with God tract for this lesson.
Step 1: God's Purpose - Peace and Life
God loves you and wants you to experience peace and life—abundant and eternal.
John 3:16 "For God so _______________ the world that He gave His one and only _______________, that whoever _______________ in Him shall not perish but have _______________ life."
John 10:10 (Jesus speaking) "I have come that they may have _______________, and that they may have it more _______________."
Question: What does God want for your life according to these verses?
Step 2: Our Problem - Sin
God created us to have fellowship with Him, but we chose to go our own way, which broke our relationship with God. This sin leads to death and eternal separation from God.
Romans 3:23 "For _______________ have sinned and fall _______________ of the glory of God."
Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is _______________, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Think about it: Sin is not just doing bad things; it is rejecting God and His good and perfect leadership for our lives and choosing to go our own way.
How have you seen sin cause separation in your relationship with God and with others relationships? _______________________________
Step 3: God's Remedy — The Cross
God sent His Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins—taking the punishment we deserved.
Romans 5:8 "But God demonstrates His own _______________ toward us, in that while we were still _______________, Christ died for us."
1 Peter 3:18 "For Christ also suffered once for sins, the _______________ for the _______________, to bring you to God."
Jesus' death demonstrates God’s love for us, ransoms us from our sin and restores us to God.
Step 4: Our Response — Receive Christ
We must individually receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
John 1:12 "Yet to all who did _______________ Him, to those who _______________ in His name, He gave the right to become children of God."
Romans 10:9-10 "If you _______________ with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and _______________ in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved."
Ephesians 2:8-9 "For it is by _______________ you have been saved, through _______________ — and this is not from yourselves, it is the _______________ of God — not by _______________, so that no one can boast."
Your Decision:
Have you received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? Do you commit to following Him all of your days?
Yes___________ No___________
If you are not sure, you can do it by praying this with all your heart:
"Lord Jesus, I need You. I acknowledge that I have sinned and separated myself from You. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I believe You rose from the dead. I now turn from my sin and invite You to come into my life. I receive You as my personal Savior and Lord. Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Help me to follow You from this day forward. Amen."
On ____ / ____ / ________ I received Jesus in my heart to be my Savior and I have committed to follow Him. I have become a child of God, and His Spirit lives inside me.
