For New Believers // Lesson 3

Water Baptism

Introduction:

This lesson walks through the basics of water baptism.

Understanding Water Baptism:

Water Baptism is an important step of obedience in your discipleship to Jesus.

Matthew 28:19-20 "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, _______________ them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and _______________ them to obey everything I have commanded you."

Acts 2:41 "Those who accepted his message were _______________, and about three thousand were added to their number that day."

What Baptism Means:

Romans 6:3-4 "Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His _______________? We were therefore _______________ with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a _______________ life."

Baptism illustrates Christ's death, burial, and resurrection. When you are baptized, you are showing that you have died to your old life (going under the water) and have been raised to a new life in Christ (coming up out of the water).

Who Should Be Baptized?

Acts 8:36-38 "As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, 'Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of _____________?' And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip _______________ him."

Acts 2:38 "Peter replied, '_______________ and be _______________, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.'"

Every person who has believed in Jesus Christ should be baptized. Baptism does not make you a believer; it demonstrates that you already are one. Baptism does not "save" you; only Jesus saves. Baptism is a sign that you are saved.

Your Baptism Decision:

Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior Yes___________ No___________

Have you been baptized in water after accepting Christ as your Savior? Yes___________ No___________

If not, would you like to be baptized? Yes___________ No___________
