Look Up // Lesson 2:
God’s Word
Introduction:
As you get started, catch up on how y’all are doing since you last met. Celebrate how God has been at work in your lives. Ask how have the 40 Days of Devotion gone so far. Share something meaningful from your times with the Lord.
Biblical Foundations:
One of the first building blocks of a lifestyle of devotion and friendship with Jesus is devotion to God’s Word. God’s Word nourishes us, gives us a firm foundation to build our lives in Christ on, and is a key part of our friendship with Jesus.
Here are several key Scriptures to study about the power and importance of God’s Word:
Matthew 4.4 Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man shall not live on _____________ alone, but on every _____________ that comes from the mouth of God.'"
Psalm 119.103-104 How ____________ are your words to my taste, sweeter than _____________ to my mouth! I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I _____________ every wrong path.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is _____________________ and is useful for ____________, ______________, ______________, and training in ___________________, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Questions for Discussion: What in these passages inspires you about God’s Word? In what ways have you experienced God's Word as "sweet" or satisfying? How has the Bible provided guidance in a specific situation in your life?
Modeling:
For the Leader: Share your own experience with God's Word. Describe how you approach Bible reading, what methods you've found helpful, and how Scripture has impacted your life.
Together: Pick a passage of Scripture and read it devotionally together. If you are not sure where to start, use Psalm 23
Practice:
We want to be devoted to God's Word. As we continue in 40 Days of Devotion we are building the discipleship habit of daily feeding on God’s Word.
