Look In // Lesson 3:
Repentance
Introduction:
As you get started, catch up on how y’all are doing since you last met. Celebrate how God has been at work in your lives. Using the Galatians 5 passage from last week, take time to practice confession of sin.
Biblical Foundations:
Confession acknowledges sin and breaks the power of hiddenness. Repentance is the next step in partnering with the Lord in uprooting sin from our lives. True repentance involves a change of mind, heart, action and direction.
Acts 3:19 "_________, then, and _________ to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord."
2 Corinthians 7:10 "Godly sorrow brings _________ that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death."
Matthew 3:8 "Produce _________ in keeping with repentance."
Questions for Discussion: What's the difference between feeling sorry about sin and true repentance? How would you describe the difference between confession and repentance? How do you think these work together to help us grow in godliness?
Modeling:
For the Leader: Share your own experience with repentance. Describe a time when God led you to genuine repentance, the process you went through, and the growth you experienced as a result.
Practice:
We want to move beyond acknowledgment of sin to genuine repentance. For the things you confessed today, how can you partner with God to see these sins uprooted from your life? How do you bear fruit in keeping with repentance?
